Sundarbans

Sunderbans
Location:  Bali
Year: 2010

Overview:

Sunderbans a world Heritage sight as declared by UNESCO houses the worlds largest delta and the planets largest mangrove forest, exotic flora & fauna and protects the world from the adverse affects of climate change by acting as a carbon sink. The population is in dire economic crisis with almost no basic amenities leave alone education for children.

Aim Of the Project:

To make available a creative outlet for under privileged children and to channelize their energy and creative instincts.

Our team had conducted field research, conceptualized and developed a communication initiatives and processed techniques to optimize the available resources best suited to benefit the community in one of the most under privileged areas. The overall approach to the issue was to harmonize the emotional quotient of the beneficiaries, children. The entire process was targeted at getting the best out of them so as to enable us to get the best for them in short or long run.

The Project

SELF FUNDED
No of children: 37
Age group: 5 – 12 years

Theme of the three day workshop was to distribute materials like drawing sheets, pencils and colors to initiate a sketching, drawing and painting session amongst children in the village.
The topics that were given were simple: to draw or paint anything that attracted them in their surroundings or anything that they loved to see in their village.

The imagination was as diverse as : tigers , boats , the rivers , a tree and Bonbibi ( the forest Goddess ) . The second step was interactions on why they had chosen a particular thing to draw and an elaboration on the same. The interactive session was extremely helpful as each came up with not only a story on their likes & dislikes but also communicated with others and even tried to influence their individual choices.

The workshop thus was not only successful in channelizing their creative instincts but also a platform for the children who had logical explanations and analytical skills to establish their likes & dislikes.

The workshop was wrapped up with a round of games amongst all , with prizes for the winners.
